BUSINESS LETTER
BLOCK STYLE

A business letter is printed on letterhead paper which already provides the return address information of the sender.

A
personal business letter is done on plain paper, so the writer needs to provide the return address.

1. Leave the margins for the letter at the default settings.
Type all lines beginning at the left margin.

2. Type the
Date (the date the letter is written)  Make sure you spell it out.
           Month*Day#,*Year

3. Return 4x after date and type the
Inside Address (name and address of the person
whom the letter is being sent)  Single-spaced.

4. Return 2x and type the
Salutation (an opening greeting) followed by a colon.

5. Return 2x and begin the
Body of the letter (the text of the letter).  Single-space the
           paragraphs and double-space between them.

6. After the last paragraph, enter 2x (DS) and type the
Closing (a closing to the letter),
           usually followed by a comma.

7. Return 4x and type the
Writer's Name (typed name of the sender).

8. Return 1x and type the
Writer's Job Title (if there is one).

9. If the writer and the typist are two different people, then you would
Return 2x and type the typist initials (lowercase letters, no punctuation).

10. If there is an enclosure that is accompanying the letter, then you would
Return 2x and type the word Enclosure.  This indicates to the person receiving the
letter that there is something enclosed with the letter.

11. After the letter is typed, then you need to vertical center it on the page.

              The steps to
Vertical Center in MicroSoft Word are
